Darra A. Coleman (Spragg) Obituary (1951

It is with deep sadness, the Coleman family would like to share that our mother, wife, and friend Darra Coleman (Spragg) passed away May 6th surrounded by family and friends at the age of 72. Darra was preceded in death by parents, Dorothy and Martin Spragg, brother Fred Rutter, sister-in-law Mary Coleman, and granddaughter Morgan Lemon. She leaves behind her husband, and best friend, of 33 years Ronald (RonTon) Coleman, sister Barbara Strano, brother Martin Spragg, brother-in-law Glenn Coleman, children Tina (Rod) Lemon, Jessica (Bryant) Bowden, Jordan Goos, five grandchildren, Kaylan, Tanner, Reid, Sidnee and Carter, 4 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as special friends and family Mike “potato salad” Coleman, Nancy, Aretha, Mary, Beth and members of the commune. Born in Canton, Ohio, Darra was a life-long resident of Canton. She graduated in 1969 from Glenwood High School and obtained her Master’s in Counseling from Walsh University in 2006. Darra was a strong spirit who always taught those around her to stand for their beliefs. Those beliefs extended to her Al-Anon community where she was on an after-hours contact list for over 30 years. People of all ages would call 24/7 for her listening ear, support, and guidance. This spirit and passion extended into her counseling career where she earned her license in professional clinical counseling so she could continue to help others. But Darra’s true life-long passions were her love of cooking, reading, the ocean and her green thumb. Her potato salad, stuffing and plates of Christmas cookies made their way into the hearts and stomachs of all she loved. Darra’s love language was acts of service and she knew comforting food was the key to helping people in their celebrations as well as during times of need. It is our hope and wish that everyone takes a moment to have a beautiful meal with a fabulous cocktail in Darra’s honor. Always think of her when enjoying a sunset at the beach. And remember to embrace the motto she taught her daughters, always stand up for what you believe in.
