Dover, Ohio
It is with both sorrow and joy that we honor the life of my father, Donald Doidge, affectionately known as Pete to those who knew and loved him dearly. He was born on November 8, 1935, in Dover, Ohio, and lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. His journey on this earth concluded on February 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and an infectious spirit of fun.
Pete was a man of many talents and interests. He spent his professional years as a dedicated machinist at the Doidge Machine Co., where he was well-respected and admired for his craftsmanship and dedication. In his earlier years, he enjoyed roller skating, water skiing, fishing, and playing slot machines at casinos or trying his luck with lottery tickets. (Yes, he often won!) But what really set Don apart was his incredible ability to bring joy and laughter into any room he entered. He loved people and would talk to anyone as he never met a stranger - we apologize if you were ever cornered by him in public.
Above all, he was a man devoted to his family. He loved his wife Nancy, and was the kind of father that any child would be blessed to have. Don and Nancy were married for almost 70 years - she loved to boss him around, and he loved to practice selective hearing. He will certainly be missed, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Provy Doidge, his brothers, and his oldest daughter, Diane. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his daughters Robin and Connie and their partners. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, plus numerous grand-dogs and one grand-kitty. He loved them all and teased them all relentlessly. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate Donald's life and find comfort that he is still making others laugh in heaven.
