Was 64 years young and passed away 11/26/2020. After a battle with Covid-19. He was born and raised in Canton Ohio. He lived his last 17 years at Country Lawn Nursing facility in Navarre Ohio after getting West Nile Virus in 2003. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Sherry, Joyce, and Cindy and his nephew, Bobby. He is survived by his sons Ronald (Amanda) McCourt of Dalton, Rodney (Lashayna) McCourt of Canton South, and Jessica McCourt of Dalton. He is also survived by two sisters Linda and Ginger, his brother Dave, eleven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In 2003 when Dad got West Nile we almost lost him. He was in a coma for a week and we didn’t know if he was going to make it. Before that he had a pretty difficult life. The virus as awful as it was caused a few complications, but I believe it saved his life. It gave him a safe place to stay, we knew where he was, and it gave us 17 sober years with him. I believe it gave Dad time to make his peace with God and that he did.
He enjoyed visits with his family and friends. Looked forward to family gatherings for holidays or special occasion. His trips to Mountaineer with his brother Dave or other family members were always a good time.
In his younger days he enjoyed playing euchre, poker, and pool. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening or taking care of animals. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, and camping with his nephews. He liked mushroom hunting and deer hunting with his sons. He was very handy and could fix anything! He had very impressive math skills and when playing dice he could tell you what you had almost instantly.
In more recent years he enjoyed playing Farkle, Bingo, Yahtzee, horse races, and cards with Linda and other friends from the facility. He enjoyed his computer and phone games or watching tv. He also loved reading western novels.
One of his last text messages said “Tell everyone I love them and thank you for all you do for me.” I didn’t know at the time, but he went on the ventilator shortly after that.
He is very loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Services are to be decided at a later date. We plan to do something once the weather is nice enough to be outside and not risk anyone getting sick.
