Marie Smith

Marie was born in 1939 in Iowa and joined the heavenly choir August 2, 2023. She grew up in Ashtabula, received a degree in education from Kent State & a Masters degree in counseling from University of Akron. She taught elementary school for several years before taking a break to raise children. She did some school and community counseling after the kids were grown. Marie enjoyed flower gardening, singing in the Church of the Lakes choir for 60 years & Chorus for a Cause for over 10 years. She was very active in two area post polio groups. She also loved to travel the world with her husband Dennis as well as sending hundreds of birthday & get well cards to friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her daughter Julie K Smith, son Douglas Smith, daughter in law Marion & grandson Henry, as well as two sisters and two brothers.

Marie’s celebration of life will be at Faith United Methodist Church, 300- 9th St. N.W. North Canton, Ohio 44720 at 7 P.M. Wed. Aug. 9, 2023 with calling hours an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to A Chorus for A Cause at achorusforacause.org.
