William P. Quinlan Jr.

–

Canton, Ohio

William Paul Quinlan Jr., known affectionately to many as Bill, passed away on May 31st, 2024. Born on March 29th, 1949 in Canton, Ohio, where he would also spend most of his life, Bill was a dedicated and cherished member of his community. As Thoreau once said, "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see," and Bill saw the beauty and potential in every aspect of his hometown.

After attending Canton South Highschool and Canton McKinley, officially graduating as a Bulldog, Bill took on the role of a Meat Cutter in the Food Service industry. He worked for the Canton Hotel & Supply before retiring, but his active role within his community never ceased. Bill became a lifelong Majorette for love, a title he wore proudly. He never lost his passion for the arts, which led him to spend five years with the Canton Elite Show Corp and two years with the Canton Elite Jazz Doll Show Comp.

Bill's dedication to his community and his compassionate spirit were further reflected in his tireless work as a public speaker and advocate. He worked with Operation Life Saver for 15 years, the National Railroad Safety Program for 10 years, and the Stark County Traffic Safety Program for 10 years. His commitment to the safety and wellbeing of others was unwavering. As he often reminded others, echoing the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

In addition to his public-speaking roles, Bill was a committed member of several organizations. He served as the Vice President of MADD Stark and Tuscarawas Counties for seven years, was a member of the Hall of Fame Committee Grand Parade for five years, and also contributed his time and energy to the Stark County Hunger Task Force. His drive to make a difference in his community was an inspiration to all who knew him.

William is survived by his sister, Robin Swift. He is preceded in death by his father, William Sr., and his mother Jeanette Quinlan. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his kindness, his dedication, and his unwavering commitment to his community.
